Global Citizenship

Global Citizenship is very important. Every country strives to be well educated and in doing so we all learn from each other. It is also very important to keep peace amongst nations.
As for me and wanting to be a teacher global citizenship works in my advantage. If I were to be bi lingual and go to another country and teach English I would be able to make alot more money and have many more job opportunities. Another reason having a bachelors in elementary education is useful would be if I went to another country to be a translator, whether it be in a school or not I would be able to translate for children or adults. Thats why I plan on majoring in elementary education and minoring in Spanish.
Now that Barack Obama is President, he is striving for our nation to achieve peace amongst each other. In order for this to happen countries need to be willing to accept change and adapt to new things. We are all able to learn from one another which is why global citizenship is so important. When one nation discovers something we may all be able to benefit from it. Also if a country makes an important discovery it may motivate other nations to achieve the same.

Liberal Arts

Liberal arts are the classes that provide students with a general knowledge. Students who take liberal arts classes would be prepared to work in a variety of different jobs. Some liberal arts classes include a language. history, writing class, a science, and a pyschology class.I think that liberal arts classes are valuable because they are general knowledge classes that can prepare you for any job. It looks good when you apply for a job because it shows that you would be able to adapt to changes, as well as have written and verbal communication skills, and be able to solve problems.I want to become a teacher and I am currently taking liberal arts classes to prepare me for my education specific classes. I am glad I start with liberal arts classes because they are preparing me for my later classes my future. :)

Transcript

For the fall semester of my freshman year I got a 4.0. I was very proud of myself especially since I set a goal of getting a 3.5 or higher. It was very rewarding to get a 4.0 and get a letter home saying I was on the deans list. I took a math, reading, rhetoric, spanish, aerobics, and fye class. In order to get such good grades in each class I had to study for all my tests and quizzes as well as do my homework on a daily basis. In some cases I even went to the tutoring center for help when I did not understand something. I also took really good notes in class so that I could look back and review them if I needed. Plus when I write things down it helps me remember them.As we are now underway with our second semester my goal is still to keep my grade above a 3.5. That is because I would like to be on the deans list all four years. Some of my classes will be harder this semester but I believe that if I keep the same work habits I will be able to do just as well as last semester. I am currently in lacrosse but in high school that actually helped me more because I had to balance my time!So far I am off the a great start, and I look forward to seeing how my second semester turns out. :)

Todays College Tour

I attended Todays College Tour on February 18th in Evans. I really had no idea what to expect. It didnt take me long to realize that it was about the issues that college students face.
The only one that I was able to somewhat relate to was the relationship one. I am in a relationship right now and that just gave me the heads up of what can happen. For our campus as a whole I believe that all of the issues could apply to the students here at Lees McRae. A few of my friends here have divorced parents, and sometimes that can be hard to deal with. Also it is very clear that people on campus are gay, or are confused about their sexuality. I think that if these people dealing with these issues see that it happens to students at all colleges that they wouldnt feel alone. Also there are people on campus that are willing to listen. It helps to talk about things, and we have people on campus to listen and keep it confidential.
This show could be helpful to college students everywhere!

College (un)Preparedness

In the article "College Students 'get away with' poor preparation" it was stated that students are getting away with being unprepared which is being blamed on teachers. Each teacher has a different way of teaching and some are labeled as 'pushovers'. For students having a pushover teacher is awesome. If you ask them to push back the date of a paper or test they are the ones who are most likely to do it. Another reason students are able to get away with unpreparedness is because students make up believable excuses. This doesnt usually happen but with some teachers they make exceptions. Teachers could not allow late work to be turned in and for students they should make use of study hall or the resources we have on campus!

Tierney Cahill- "Living without Fear"

When I heard we had to go to listen to a speaker for class I was not too thrilled. As soon as she started speaking my feelings changed. I was interested in what she was saying and she was a very good speaker. I was able to relate to Tierney Cahill because I want to be a teacher as well. She really cared about her students and you could tell that she had a really good relationship with the students. Her students dared her to try the unthinkable; run for political office. She didnt know much about it but she did some research, and had her students help her out. She didnt win but the experience really changed her life for the better.

I hope that when I become a teacher my students will look up to me. I want to teach first grade because I want to teach kids how to read. I remember my first grade teacher to this day, and because of her I was able to read and continue my education.

I am very scared to ride the Superman Roller Coaster. I have been on many others but for some reason this coaster scares me to death! I think that with the right frame of mind, a hand to hold, and the thought of the bravery of Teirney Cahill, I would be able to ride this roller coaster.

Dead Man Walking

Dead Man Walking was a very touching and controversial play. Sister Prejean, author Dead Man Walking and The Death of Innocence, came to our campus to talk about her experiences. She told us about how she helped people convicted of murder waiting to be killed. Sister Prejean told us about a family of a victim who came up to her and told her that they were upset that she didnt help their broken family. This play was about that family which made it easy to understand because she had talked to us about it. The play was very sad which brought tears to my eyes. It made me want to go read the book and watch the movie.
Lucy did a great job playing Sister Prejean. All the actors and actresses did an amazing job!
